
This garlicky Vitamix pea soup took only ten minutes to make. My Vitamix was originally gifted by their PR company although this recipe post was not commissioned and written some time later.
Making Vitamix pea soup in a hurry!
My husband had been ranting on Saturday that I’d left the day in limbo, too late to combine a trip out with lunch, nothing in the fridge to speak of.
I’d avoided shopping this week and so we’d been low on salad for several days. Now we barely had any vegetables either. It was one of those moments where I wished deeply that my child would eat baked beans and he’d already had eggs for breakfast.
Thank goodness for freezers. Within minutes I’d blitzed up a load of peas in the power blender and we had this glow in the dark Vitamix pea soup for lunch.
Convincing children to eat pea soup – this is sneaky!
Ted actually doesn’t like peas so I told him it was “glow in the dark soup” which was met with more enthusiasm than the truth. And it’s amazing how the distraction of a bowl of cheese to sprinkle can distract a seven year old.
The “glow in the dark” reference reminded him of my dad. My dad refers to mushy peas as “glow in the dark peas” as in the Midlands, they used to be sold in lurid green colour from food colouring. They were so green they were almost blue!!
More recently in a chip shop, my father asked the youngster behind the counter, “You don’t sell glow in the dark peas do you?” and the girl was baffled by the question. The manager remarked over her shoulder, “No but we put Jack Daniels in them.” Then it was my dad’s turn to be baffled as he didn’t know what Jack Daniels was!
Using the Vitamix Soup Program
I haven’t experimented enough with soups in the Vitamix. I make smoothies almost every day and hummus and pesto probably once a week. But the Vitamix soup program has been hit or miss if you find raw flavours challenging.
The happy medium is possibly to give your soup a further simmer on the hob which helps reduce the liquid, thicken the texture and cooks the vegetables further – rather than heating them up through brute centrifugal force.

Adding cheese to Vitamix Pea Soup
You could melt any cheese in this although red varieties might clash somewhat. I considered goat but opted for the teensy chunk of leftover Christmas Stilton with some grated cheddar for sprinkling.
I think any non coloured firm cheese would do the job; from Comté to Gruyère or a simple sharp Cheddar.

Vitamix pea soup with cheese and chives
Ingredients
- 300 g frozen peas
- 1 vegetable bouillon cube
- 2 tsp garlic puree
- 1 litre boiling water
- 50 g cheese any firm cheese of your choice, cut into small chunks
- 1 tbsp fresh chives chopped
- cheese optional, grated extra to serve
Instructions
- Place the peas, stock cube and water in the Vitamix or power blender jug.
- Using the soup programme - if you have one - or blend on full power for several minutes until completely smooth.
- Pour the blended soup into a saucepan and simmer for a few more minutes.
- Add the cheese and let it melt.
- Serve with a sprinkling of chopped chives. Add extra cheese to sprinkle on top of the vitamix pea soup if you wish.

I am with you on the soup front and think the only soups that really work from scratch in a power blender are tomato based. But, yours does look like it would work brilliantly and tons of cheese would give a lovely richness. Clever idea re-naming the soup. I must try that!
I should try a tomato one. I did a carrot one last week which was ok but bit too much water.
Loving that i’m not the only one who is rummaging in the freezer foraging for emergency meal ideas… frozen peas are a total godsend!! I love the look of this vivid soup and might just have to drum it up for the boys’ tea tonight as i’ve totally failed to get to the supermarket this week because of all the relocation chaos…
I know, I am never without frozen peas, spinach or soy beans. Hope the boys like it!
I have yet to make a raw soup in my Vitamix, However I love the idea of further simmering it! Super. I’ll have to try this one and let you know !
