Bosch Tassimo coffee machine

December 10, 2011 by Sarah Trivuncic

Tassimo

First let me say that I am not the coffee drinker in our house; my husband is.

However when the offer to try out a Bosch Tassimo came my way, I was tempted by the range of branded drinks discs you could easily pop into it.

Coffee obviously, with Kenco and Carte Noire varieties being the widely available best sellers but also hot chocolate from Suchard, Cadbury or Milka (yummy mauve packaged chocolate with cows on it), normal tea and herbal teas (each by Twinings).

After a play with it you can see my verdict of it’s good and bad points below.

If you still like the look of it, you can enter a givewaway win a Bosch Tassimo machine here today.

Tassimo

Pros and cons of Bosch Tassimo coffee machine

Pros:

Doesn’t take up much space – about the same as a toaster.

Easily to refill with water – makes 5 cups before needing to be topped up.

Drinks ready in under a minute – you’ll use your kettle less.

Less bother than getting an Espresso Coffee Maker out and fiddling about with espresso powder. Shove a disc in, have cup ready underneath and press button, that’s about it.

Fun selection of hot drinks – buy one of these Tassimo disc holders and pretend you live in an Ibis hotel

Lower price compared to other coffee machines

Entertainment value

Easy to clean

Cons:

No ritual; my husband quite likes fiddling about with espresso powder in our traditional silver coffee maker.

Mixed results with taste of drinks; some taste like they came from a vending machine (which to all intents and purposes they do)

Cost per drink – 20-25p depending where you buy discs. More than instant coffee or powder a perculator but hugely cheaper than Starbucks.

No steamer nozzle – though you need to spend more on other brands to get this feature

Non recyclable cartridges – quite a lot of plastic

Bulky packages for 16 discs. You’d need a lot of room if you bought lots of types of drink – hence the beauty of said Tassimo disc holder

Tassimo

My last word on this is that Tassimo is a sleek, attractive looking gadget and at anything between £99 and £123 it’s a lower price than the majority of other coffee machines I’ve looked at – the one with George Clooney in the advert for instance. Were we bigger coffee drinkers looking to get a good value machine that would give us a quick drink in the mornings before heading out to work, this would be ideal.

It’s not retro cool or Italian, you’ll need to look to the comparatively priced dinky traditional looking De’Longhi Icona and or luxuriously £600 worth of Gaggia if that’s the style you’re after. The Tassimo is alternatively clean, functional, modern looking with pretty green lights that come on whilst in use.

The novelty of a machine in the kitchen to make drinks is a big hit with my four year old as you can see below! He’s very fond of the hot chocolate!

With thanks to Bosch Tassimo.
